A group of local educational publishers collaborated to implement brand new age-appropriate K-5 hardcover libraries at six Club locations over the past few months! These books are labeled by reading level and cover diverse topics, genres, and characters for all ages. Thank you to our publishing partners Capstone, Bellwether, Jump!, Bearport, and ABDO for coming together to donate 1,000 new books per Club.
We hosted grand opening celebrations for each library at which local authors Andrew Stark, Siman Nuurali, and V.T. Bidania read books to Club youth and distributed books for Club members to take home to share with their families.
Additionally, K-12 youth at all Club locations now have access to over 7,000 read-along digital books that match their interests and reading abilities thanks to Renaissance Learning”s “myON” 24/7 reading dashboard donation!
“We are in our sixth year of implementing our literacy model here in the Twin Cities. One of our goals was to have Club libraries in place with books that were culturally relevant and ‘meeting our members where they are’ regarding their reading proficiency. We now know exactly where their reading level is and have the tools necessary so that every member can be appropriately challenged at the appropriate level. We are so thankful to our publisher partners and Renaissance Learning’s ‘myON Reading Dashboard’ for making this dream a reality” -Crystal Bieter, BGCTC Sr. Director of Curriculum and Instruction
BGCTC is grateful for these community partnerships that are providing increased access to high-quality reading material for Club kids and teens. These libraries are helping to engage youth in more frequent reading practice to build literacy skills.
