Field games are a camp classic, and at Voyageur Environmental Center (VEC), they are an essential part of our approach to Social Emotional Learning (SEL) through play. These games are not only enjoyable but also crucial for supporting emotional regulation, fostering teamwork, enhancing communication skills, and teaching respectful competition.
Nick, VEC’s Program Director, has been passionate about camp experiences since his youth and is an expert in SEL through play. His motto, “FUN FIRST,” ensures that youth are fully engaged and making the most of their camp experience.
Some of the all-time favorite games at VEC include the low ropes course, capture the flag, kickball, gaga ball, and ships across the ocean. And for those winter months, there’s always broomball to keep the excitement going!
