The continuing traumatic events throughout our community have created fear and uncertainty for BGCTC Club members and families. Many are facing new and unexpected challenges that threaten their stability, their well-being, and their ability to fully participate in the opportunities they rely on at the Club.
In response, BGCTC is stepping forward as a consistent source of safety, nourishment, connection, and hope.
We urgently need the collective strength of our community to support these efforts.
Through ongoing conversations with Club families, four key focus areas have been identified:
Food and Household Supplies
We are coordinating and distributing food, hygiene items, and essential cleaning supplies to families who are struggling to access them.
Transportation
Transportation barriers are growing, keeping some young people from arriving and leaving safely from school and the Club.
Support for Virtual Learning
As school districts continue to offer virtual learning options, we are extending Club hours to provide digital access, academic support, and stability during the school day. We are also providing at-home activity kits for times when youth cannot be at school or the Club.
Increased Mental Health Supports
This is an extremely traumatic, fearful, and anxiety-filled time for our community. BGCTC offers a variety of strategies to support mental health, including group therapy for Club members and families on-site at Clubs free of charge.
We need your help now!
Together, we can ensure that young people and families continue to find stability, connection, and hope at the Club. By selecting one of the options below, you will be strengthening and sustaining these critical supports for our community.
Letter from the CEO
Every day, I witness the courage and resilience of the young people who walk through our Club doors—and the unwavering commitment of our staff who show up for them in every circumstance. Yet today, I must share that the needs we are seeing from our youth and families have grown dramatically. Many are facing new and unexpected challenges that threaten their stability, their well-being, and their ability to fully participate in the opportunities they rely on at the Club. In this moment of uncertainty, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities is stepping forward as a constant source of safety, nourishment, connection, and hope—but we cannot do it alone. We urgently need the collective strength of our community to respond.
We have launched the BGCTC Community Relief Fund to respond to emerging and immediate needs. In ongoing conversations with Club families and community leaders, these four key focus areas have been identified to protect the well-being of our youth and eliminate barriers to their participation. We will continue to monitor the needs of our community and adapt our response accordingly.
On behalf of our young people, our staff, and our entire Club community—thank you for your partnership, your compassion, and your commitment to ensuring that every child has a safe place to learn, grow, and thrive.
With gratitude,
Terryl Brumm
