About Voyageur

The Voyageur Club is located on the existing BGCTC Voyageur Environmental Center property which has been owned and operated since 1968. The property and facilities have historically been used to provide residential day and overnight camp programming for all BGCTC youth. Given the close proximity to the Twin Cities and the vast natural habitat, over the years Voyageur has provided many unique opportunities for thousands of BGCTC youth to explore environmental education and empower them to become stewards of the environment.

In January 2024, BGCTC launched Voyageur as an official club site and is now providing high quality, holistic academic and youth development programming with an environmental education focus for grades K-12 during the school year for Mound-Westonka area youth.

At Voyageur, the environmental education curriculum is core to the education continuum offered. In addition to the lake, Voyageur features a beaver pond, an archery range, a sports field, two lodges, miles of hiking trails, and eight year-round sleeping cabins. Through hands-on, experiential programs, youth increase their connection to the environment, deepen their interest in STEM careers, enhance their creativity, and bring awareness of their role within ecosystems. Increased STEM opportunities with an environmental focus include: an outdoor garden space and a year-round greenhouse where youth learn about food systems, farming, and how to support a healthy ecosystem through sustainable land management.
