Meet Olutimilehin Olusanya, “Mr. O”
Career Pathways Facilitator at Jerry Gamble Boys & Girls Club
What is your “why”?
I do this work because I truly enjoy working with young people. I am a Boys & Girls Club Alum and want to offer support to youth to better their lives. My mom did a really good job of making sure we had positive role models growing up, but I wish I would have had more mentorship from Black male role models – especially in high school.
What is your favorite part about working with youth?
My favorite part is when I get a chance to explain something complicated and provide youth with tools that help to overcome challenges, watch them overcome challenges and see how they can apply those same tools to other obstacles.
What projects are you working on right now with BGCTC youth?
I am helping two young men who are working towards competing in Youth of the Year. I am helping them get ready by honing in on their projects and developing their essays and speeches. It has been really fun getting to know all the kids here.
Mr. O shared that he is grateful for all of the career choices he has made that have led him to this point, including being a musician, teacher, and time in the military.
