YOUTH OF THE YEAR: Heaven Cunningham, East Side Club
Heaven has been a Club member for the past five years. She has a rigorous course load in school, taking several Advanced Placement classes while maintaining a 3.4 GPA. She also leads an active lifestyle, captaining her school’s cheerleading team and helping recruit members for the BGCTC sports leagues. In her spare time, Heaven is dedicated to volunteering and service and has been the vice
president of her Keystone Club since 2015.
KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Paris Yarbrough, Club Alumna
Paris is an East Side Club alumna and Page Scholar. She graduated from Harding High School and
Augsburg University, and is now in her third and final year at the University of St. Thomas School of Law. She is the former president of the Black Law Students Association and is currently clerking at a county attorney’s office. Even with her busy schedule, Paris continues her involvement with BGCTC as a volunteer in the STARS and STEM programs at the East Side Club.
HONORARY CHAIRS: Jerry & Diane Carlson
Jerry and Diane have been passionate supporters of the Boys & Girls Clubs for over two decades. Jerry served on the BGCTC Board of Directors, and Diane is a long-time member and crucial leader of the Women’s Association—she has worked on nearly every benefit event over the past 20 years! Jerry and Diane are also key sponsors of the BGCTC Literacy Program. Their support allowed the Clubs to pilot a literacy initiative last fall aimed at identifying struggling Club members in grades 4-12, outside the K-3 age range targeted in our traditional Literacy Program. We saw tremendous success with the pilot, and are proud to announce that BGCTC will be rolling out this initiative to every Club site this fall thanks to the Carlsons’ leadership and support.
