Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities CEO

Terryl Brumm wins 2022 Garth Award

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities is proud to announce that CEO Terryl Brumm has been awarded the 2022 Thomas G. Garth Character and Courage Award by Boys & Girls Clubs of America. This is the highest award given by the national organization recognizing impact-driven leadership to a Club professional. The award was presented to Brumm on May 6 at the Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Conference in Chicago.

The award was created in memory of Garth, a former Boys & Girls Clubs of America president and is presented each year during the organization’s national conference. Terryl Brumm was named this year for her extraordinary leadership here in the Twin Cities and nationally.

“The Boys & Girls Club is a place where there’s so much love and joy and it has completely changed and brought purpose to my life. We talk so much about what we do for Club youth, but I cannot stress enough that the kids in these Clubs have saved my life more than once. We have the best Club community in the world in the Twin Cities- they stand beside me, they push me to be better, and they trust me to keep us going. Thank you for this opportunity and this recognition,” Brumm remarked as she accepted the award.

Brumm has served as CEO for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities for 6.5 years but has been a Club professional for nearly 25 years. She has worked diligently to stabilize the organization’s finances and create a strong plan for facilities improvement and maintaining a focus on technology. Brumm has also found success in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Starting with a focus on trauma-informed practices, creating strong mental wellbeing programs at multiple Club sites.

Over the last few years, amid the violence, destruction and unrest in the Twin Cities, Brumm and other BGCTC Club staff have worked to provide support to youth, staff and their community. As a mother, she deeply understands the critical need for young people to find their voice in volatile and uncertain times. Brumm has held leadership roles in her state, region and at the national level and is always leading with passion, focus and commitment.

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities are so grateful for Terryl’s leadership and are looking forward to seeing where the future takes us together. Watch the video below to see what else her colleagues had to say in the midst of this big accomplishment.
